A Bill to amend the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 to make provision about the number and size of parliamentary constituencies in the United Kingdom; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
5 May 2021
This bill would change how many MPs there are and how large each parliamentary constituency should be in the UK. It amends the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 to set new rules on the number and size of constituencies and to address related boundary matters.
The bill is at the first reading in the House of Commons. It has previously seen Lords amendments in 2020, which MPs voted to disagree with in several divisions.
In general, Conservative MPs supported the bill while Labour and most other opposition parties opposed it. Smaller parties and some pro-reform groups backed the bill in some divisions, while Sinn Féin and some other groups did not participate in all votes.
